The President of the Moderna pharmaceutical company Stephen Hoge said in an interview on Thursday that the research indicates that SARS CoV2 virus is likely to stay long-term and there will be more rounds of the outbreak, potentially even annually. In light of continued infection and emerging variants, Moderna’s leadership sees using “multivalent boosters” as a response. The company is in the last stages of testing before filing for regulatory approval of a booster dose. Hoge noted that booster shots will likely be necessary this fall. Moderna’s booster strategy is pursuing three options: a third dose of original vaccine, a variant-specific shot and a combination of both. The company is also looking to develop a jab against all variants of the COVID-19 virus.
Countries weigh need for booster COVID-19 shots
(Reuters) – Pfizer and its partner BioNTech have asked U.S. and European regulators to approve a booster dose following a two-shot regimen of their COVID-19 vaccine, based on evidence of greater risk of infection six months after inoculation. Moderna has also filed for full approval for their vaccines in the United States. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is aiming to give the green light for the Pfizer shots by early September, the New York Times reported. The World Health Organization has, meanwhile, called for a halt to COVID-19 vaccine boosters until at least the end of September to allow for the inoculation of at least 10% of the population of every country. As of yet, there is no consensus among scientists and agencies, including WHO, that a third dose is necessary. The following outlines what options countries and regions are considering on the issue:
UNITED STATES
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on July 8 that Americans who have been fully vaccinated do not need a booster COVID-19 shot at this time. However, top infectious disease official Anthony Fauci said on July 24 that Americans who are immune compromised may need extra shots as the country faces the more infectious Delta variant.
EUROPEAN UNION
Europe’s drug regulator on July 14 refrained from making any recommendations on mixing schedules of COVID-19 vaccines with doses from different manufacturers, saying it was too early to confirm if and when an additional booster shot would be needed. Recent supply contracts with Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna have included the potential for the bloc to buy booster shots.
BRITAIN
Britain has begun planning for a booster campaign starting later this year after top vaccine advisers said it might be necessary to give third shots to the elderly and most vulnerable from September. It said it would buy 60 million more doses of Pfizer/BioNTech’s vaccine ahead of the possible booster programme, bringing its total order of the shot to 100 million doses. According to the Telegraph newspaper, 32 million Britons will be offered extra shots in a campaign set to launch as early as Sept. 6.
BRAZIL
Brazilians should prepare for annual COVID-19 immunisations to reinforce vaccines, the head of public-sector laboratory Butantan said in May.
FINLAND
It has not made a decision on the recommendation of a third dose but is expected to do so in August.
FRANCE
President Emmanuel Macron said France was working on rolling out third COVID-19 vaccine doses to the elderly and vulnerable from September.
GERMANY
Germany will in September start to offer a booster shot to vulnerable people such as the elderly and those with weak immune systems. The shots will be mRNA-vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna regardless of what was used previously.
SWEDEN
The majority of Swedes will be offered a booster shot against COVID in 2022, while high risk groups could get a third shot this autumn, the health authority said on Tuesday.
INDONESIA
Indonesia started giving booster shots produced by Moderna to medical workers in July and is considering extra doses for wider use.
THAILAND
Thailand plans to give booster shots of imported mRNA vaccine to its front-line workers – who were given imported Sinovac before the locally manufactured AstraZeneca vaccine was available in June.
CAMBODIA
Cambodia will begin offering a booster shot, switching between the AstraZeneca and Chinese COVID-19 vaccines. The third dose will be offered to between 500,000 to one million front-line workers as a priority.
ISRAEL
Israel in July started offering a third shot of the Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine to people aged over 60.
RUSSIA
Health clinics in Moscow started offering booster shots this month to people vaccinated six months ago or more, making Russia one of the first countries to begin re-vaccination.
SINGAPORE
Singapore said in May it was making plans for booster shots later this year or early next year, if necessary.
SOUTH KOREA
South Korea said in June it plans to secure more mRNA vaccines to use as boosters next year for its entire population of 52 million.
SWITZERLAND
Switzerland has ordered 43 million doses of vaccines, including preparations for potential booster shots in 2022, should they be needed, the Health Ministry said.
GULF STATES
The United Arab Emirates will start providing a booster shot to all fully vaccinated people. The shot will be available to people considered at high risk three months after their second vaccine dose, and six months for others. In June, the UAE and Bahrain made the Pfizer vaccine available as a booster shot to those initially immunised with a vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm.
COMPANIES
Pfizer and Moderna have raised the prices of their COVID-19 vaccines in their latest European Union supply contracts, the Financial Times reported on Aug. 1. Moderna had earlier struck deals with Spain’s Rovi and Switzerland’s Lonza at a Dutch plant that would boost 50-microgram dose production– half the level of its original shots – in Europe to up to 600 million doses annually, with the capacity due to come on line this year. France’s Sanofi has agreed to buy U.S. biotech company Translate Bio in a $3.2 billion deal, as it bets on next-generation mRNA vaccine technology beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.
Japan records over 15,000 new COVID cases for first time
TOKYO, Aug 5 (Reuters) – Newly reported daily COVID-19 cases in Japan exceeded 15,000 for the first time, public broadcaster NHK reported on Thursday, after the Tokyo metropolitan government reported a record-high 5,042 new infection cases in the capital.
U.S. COVID-19 cases hit six-month high at over 100,000
Test at home… save yourself avoid the long line…stay alive
Aug 5 (Reuters) – The United States hit a six-month high for new COVID cases with over 100,000 infections reported on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, as the Delta variant ravages areas where people did not get vaccinated. The country is reporting over 94,819 cases on a seven-day average, a five-fold increase in less than a month, Reuters data through Wednesday showed. The seven-day average provides the most accurate picture of how fast cases are rising since some states only report infections once or twice a week. In the coming weeks, cases could double to 200,000 per day due to the highly contagious Delta variant, said top U.S. infectious disease expert Dr. Anthony Fauci on Wednesday. “If another one comes along that has an equally high capability of transmitting but also is much more severe, then we could really be in trouble,” Fauci said in an interview with McClatchy. “People who are not getting vaccinated mistakenly think it’s only about them. But it isn’t. It’s about everybody else, also.” The Delta variant, first detected in India, accounts for 83% of all new cases reported in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Vaccination rates vary widely from a high of 76% of Vermont residents receiving a first dose to a low of 40% in Mississippi, with polls showing Republicans are far less likely than Democrats to get vaccinated. Nick Bite: Get your booster shot! Deaths, a lagging indicator, jumped 33% over the past week, with about 377 deaths per day on average, according to the analysis. Florida, Texas and Louisiana were reporting the highest total number of new cases in the region over the last week, according to a Reuters analysis. Hospitals in Florida and Louisiana are seeing record numbers of COVID patients occupying beds. To try to halt the spread of the virus, New York City will require proof of vaccination at restaurants, gyms and other businesses. Roughly 60% of all New Yorkers have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to city data. But certain areas, largely poor communities and communities of color, have much lower vaccination rates. Some private companies are also mandating vaccines for employees and customers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration plans to give full approval for the Pfizer (PFE.N) COVID vaccine by early September, the New York Times reported on Tuesday, which could prompt more Americans to get the vaccine as it might reduce their fears about the safety of the shot.

New York auto show cancelled on Delta variant worries
CANCELLED
Aug 4 (Reuters) – The 2021 New York auto show AT THE LAST MINUTE has been canceled due to the risks posed by the more infectious Delta variant of the coronavirus, its organizers said on Wednesday.
The New York International Auto Show has become a casualty of the fast-spreading coronavirus Delta variant. Show organizers said Wednesday that they’ve decided to cancel it this year. The reasons are the growing spread of the variant and recent restrictions announced by state and local officials to fight it.
“Over the past few weeks, especially within the past few days, circumstances have changed, making it more difficult to create an event at the high standard that we and our clients expect,” Mark Schienberg, the show’s president, said in a statement.
The annual New York auto show is typically the biggest convention gathering in New York City each year, drawing more than 1 million visitors to the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan for the multiday event and generating millions of dollars in revenue for local businesses. Spokesman Chris Sams said.

“Delta is the most infectious virus ever seen” – CDC
CDC REPORTS:
“Delta Strain as Contagious as Chickenpox”
“Fully vaccinated people becoming symptom free Super Spreaders”
“Vaccinated people infected and getting sick”
You Would be a Fool Not to be Worried
The above headlines sent chills up and down my spine. I always knew the Delta strain is a highly contagious killer… but to see it confirmed in black and white is my worst nightmare
I HAVE ALREADY GIVEN YOU MY NANOPARTICLE LEVEL 4 BIO LAB ULPA CARTRIDGE FILTER… THE ONLY NANO PARTICLE FILTER AVAILABLE TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC
I recently sent most of you, over a year in development our CoronaVit state of the art supplements… But to my horror masks, supplements, isolation and even vaccinations are not enough.
Our vaccines at 6 months old are failing and at best it will be the end of the year before a new vaccine targeted to the Delta variant will be available. You need in the mean time to get a third booster shot of the existing vaccine. If and when you can.
Until then, what do we do about the 1,000 times more infectious Delta mutation that is defeating our vaccines!!!!!!! I agonized day and night. Short of living in a clean room, donning a hazmat suit I could not guarantee your safety.
Well it’s Sarah to the rescue, my youngest daughter. She just finished her exams and passed the most difficult freshman algorithm test I have ever seen.
So I offered her a trip to Greece as a reward with her buddies… And she turned it down and wanted to come home to her Daddy… She sure knows how to tug on my heart strings.
And this is where one of those Zen moments, life changing events occurred. They would not let her on the plane… She had her Vaccination passport and had gotten a few days earlier a PCR test.
The airport would not accept any tests. The airlines know that they’ve got a huge Delta mutation spread problem. So at some airports the authorities instituted new guidelines. Before anyone could board the plane they had to get a new Covid-19 test on the spot at a cost of 100 Euros.
Sarah called me upset because she was standing in a long line to get tested and she was afraid she would miss her flight. I told her Sarah, you are going to miss your flight anyway because it takes at least 24 hours to get the results back. She said, Dad it’s a new test, you get the results in 15 minutes and it identifies negative cases with 99% accuracy.
Well HELLO KITTY! I said Sarah get me a picture or the name of this test. I’ve got to have them. I am catching hell here. My millennial daughters and staff are in a rebellion. We came out of lock down and people were coming and going under a few conditions impossible to enforce. They can go off the reservation as long as they wear their masks, only hang with vaccinated individuals and avoid crowds, especially indoors…
Now what do you think the odds of that happening with the millennials who have developed the art of obfuscation and omission of pertinent information to an art form?
They are not going to give up frying on the beach… or the $5 chocolate flavored coffees and perish though no Sushi bar!
I have been dreading the coming lock down I was going to have to impose on the compound here. The variant has for a FACT defeated our vaccines and there is no booster shot targeting the Delta variant approved much less in production. And there will not be one until the end of the year. What to do?
A light went off in my head.
For the past 2 years we had demanded everyone coming on the compound wear a mask and we checked their temperature and blood oxygen levels at the gate… And this year we demanded a vaccine certificate.
So our solution could not be simpler. And it works in part because the Delta mutation is so infectious. The solution is:
At home testing… Or in my case at gate.
Give me $15 and 15 minutes and I’ll give your life back.
The viral load of this Delta variant is 1,000 times more infectious than the Alpha variant… And it gets into your nose and throat in a matter of hours if you’re infected. So the solution is very simple.
Test everyone you’re about to let around you. And here is the really good part. You do not need to test everyone in the same household. Suppose your family is coming with the grand kids. If they all live in the same house all you need to do is test one person. Because the variant is so contagious they are either all infected, symptoms or not, or hopefully no one is infected… And these new test kits I have in stock well tell you in fifteen minutes.
We have purchased and committed to 1,000 test kits, 400 of them have already been spoken for. If you order now, I can have them in your hands next week. It’s the best home test kit on the market. More Details: The Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 OTC Test lets you get rapid results, in the privacy of your own home. Available direct from us at SalvaVida, everything you need is in the package and taking the test is simple.
The Abbott BinaxNOW COVID-19 OTC Test utilizes trusted technology used for decades by healthcare professionals and makes simple, easy-to-use COVID-19 tests easily accessible. This has been a game changer for us. Life around here is now near normal. The best it’s been in two years… Since this horror show started.
Features/Benefits: When it comes to COVID-19, knowledge is power. People want to know if they are infectious or not and they want their results now.
Rapid tests are best at detecting higher amounts of viral load when people are most likely to be infectious. And they deliver results quickly enough to help sick individuals from potentially spreading the virus to others. With multiple rapid tests available, what should you look for when selecting a rapid test?
Speed: Look for tests that offer results in minutes, not hours or days. Tests claiming to be “rapid” but still require mail-in samples or lab processing times have delays built in. Our BinaxNOW COVID-19 tests deliver results in 15 minutes or less.
Convenience: Testing that’s convenient and accessible is likely closer to you. Tests that don’t require instrumentation can be performed at home (with a virtually guided service) or outside of traditional healthcare settings, in drive-thru clinics, schools, workplaces and stand-up community testing sites. Look for tests offered in myriad locations.
Comfort: Nasal swabs that don’t require a deep swab are the most comfortable. They’re preferable to nasopharyngeal swabs, which can be uncomfortable and require that healthcare workers take additional precautions.
Reliability: Our BinaxNOW test is among the most studied rapid antigen test in the country and demonstrates performance of 95.6% positive agreement (sensitivity) in people seven days or less post-symptom onset with Ct counts of 33 or below. These are people who are most likely to be infectious and spread the virus to others.
Track Record: All COVID-19 tests in the U.S. have been authorized under FDA Emergency Use Authorization. Abbott’s rapid tests are among the most widely-used in the U.S., with more than 200 million of our BinaxNOW rapid tests used in urgent care clinics, doctor’s offices, pharmacies, nursing homes, and schools since April 2020.
Our Rapid COVID-19 Tests
Our BinaxNOW test is the size of a credit card and requires no specialized instrumentation. This sleek form factor is what allows us to make it at scale and sell it at an affordable price. The test can be used at home without a prescription and through a virtually guided online video. This test kit is extremely easy to use.
Even as promising vaccines become more widely available, reliable, quick and convenient rapid testing will play an important role in containing pockets of infectious mutations that are in some cases defeating vaccinations.
Home testing is helping people get back to business, travel, school and visiting loved ones.
Because the sooner your COVID results are known, the sooner you can get back to the things you want to do. And now, you’re ready.

Global COVID-19 cases surpass 200 million as Delta variant spreads
Aug 4 (Reuters) – Coronavirus cases worldwide surpassed 200 million on Wednesday, according to a Reuters tally, as the more-infectious Delta variant threatens areas with low vaccination rates and strains healthcare systems. The global surge in cases is highlighting the widening gap in inoculation rates between wealthy and poor nations. Cases are rising in about one-third of the world’s countries, many of which have not even given half their population a first dose. The World Health Organization (WHO) on Wednesday called for a moratorium on COVID-19 vaccine boosters until at least 10% of the population in every country was vaccinated. “We need an urgent reversal, from the majority of vaccines going to high-income countries, to the majority going to low-income countries,” WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said. The Delta variant is upending all assumptions about the virus and roiling economies, with disease experts scrambling to find whether the latest version of coronavirus is making people, especially unvaccinated individuals, sicker than before. At least 2.6% of the world’s population has been infected since the pandemic started, with the true figure likely higher due to limited testing in many places. If the number of infected people were a country, it would be eighth most populous in the world, behind Nigeria, according to a Reuters analysis It took over a year for COVID-19 cases to hit 100 million mark, while the next 100 million were reported in just over six months, according to the analysis. The pandemic has left close to 4.4 million people dead.
The countries reporting the most cases on a seven-day average – the United States, Brazil, Indonesia, India and Iran – represent about 38% of all global cases reported each day.
The United States accounts for one in every seven infections reported worldwide. U.S. states with low vaccination rates such as Florida and Louisiana are seeing record numbers of COVID patients hospitalized, despite the nation giving 70% of adults at least one vaccine shot. The head of one Louisiana hospital warned of the “darkest days” yet. Unvaccinated people represent nearly 97% of severe cases, according to the White House COVID-19 Response Team. Countries in Southeast Asia are also reporting rising cases. With just 8% of the world’s population, the region is reporting almost 15% of all global cases each day, according to a Reuters analysis. Indonesia, which faced an exponential surge in COVID-19 cases in July, is reporting the most deaths on average and surpassed 100,000 total deaths on Wednesday. The country accounts for one in every five deaths reported worldwide each day. The Southeast Asian nation aims to gradually reopen its economy in September, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin said on Monday, citing that the wave of infections had passed its peak, with daily confirmed cases on the decline. After suffering its worst outbreak in April-May, India is once again seeing a rising trend of cases. Last Friday, the country reported 44,230 new COVID-19 cases, the most in three weeks, fuelling worries of a third wave of infections that has forced one state to lockdown. China’s Wuhan city, where the virus first emerged in late 2019, will test its 12 million residents for the coronavirus after confirming its first domestic cases of the Delta variant. The city had reported no local cases since mid-May last year. The variant, first detected in India, is as contagious as chickenpox and spreads far more easily than the common cold or flu, the CDC said in an internal document. A key issue, said Dr. Gregory Poland, a vaccine scientist at the Mayo Clinic, is that the current vaccines block disease, but they do not block infection by keeping the virus from replicating in the nose.
As a result, he said, “the vaccines we have currently are not going to be the be-all, end-all,” he said. “We are now in a scenario of our own making, where this is going to be years to decades to now defeat. … And we’re going to chase our tail with variants until we get a type of vaccine that offers infection and disease-blocking capabilities.”
Israeli airline El Al to carry out mid-flight COVID test trial
JERUSALEM, Aug 4 (Reuters) – Passengers on an El Al flight from New York to Tel Aviv will be tested for the coronavirus on the plane itself or before boarding on Thursday to speed up procedures upon arrival in Israel, where infections are on the rise. The Israeli airline announced the plan a day after Israel said travellers from the United States, like those from many other countries, would have to self-isolate for at least a week after landing at Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion airport.
Israel hopes the new restriction will slow the spread of COVID-19 and discourage Israelis – foreign tourism to Israel is still largely banned – from flying abroad and risking higher exposure to the Delta variant that is fueling a surge of infections worldwide.
The PCR tests for the El Al passengers will be conducted in coordination with Israel’s Health Ministry and the Femi and Xpres Check companies that have testing labs at New York’s John F. Kennedy airport and at Ben-Gurion, the airline said. Representatives of the companies, rather than the carrier’s crew, will administer the tests on the flight. El Al noted the tests, a pilot programme, were not a substitute for those required for passengers from the United States and other countries up to 72 hours before a flight.Arriving passengers at Ben-Gurion must also take a PCR test at the airport before leaving the terminal. The El Al passengers tested in-flight or before boarding on Thursday would be able to skip that step. Israel closed its borders to tourists at the outset of the pandemic and has only allowed in a small number of foreigners in recent months. El Al — which changed owners and management last year — and other Israeli airlines were hit hard, shutting most routes for 2020, while the local tourism sector has suffered. Israel has banned travel to and from 14 countries, including India, Britain, Russia, Spain and Mexico. El Al Chief Executive Avigal Sorek said it was clear the virus was here to stay in one form or another. “We must not stop our lives,” he said, adding steps were needed to live alongside the virus. He said El Al would work on creative solutions to help open Israel up to foreign tourism in the future. “We ask the decision makers in Israel to examine these measures and adopt similar solutions so that we can maintain a routine,” Sorek said.
